Large windows overlook the Oi River, providing panoramic views of boats traveling downstream, scenery that changes by the hour, and seasonal colors decorating the maple trees of Mt. Ogura. Boldly crafted pillars and ceiling boards have been washed to restore their original sheen, providing an artisanal flavor along with the intricate wood latticework and delicate gold patterns on the walls and doors.

The essence of traditional Japanese architecture is fully preserved in these pavilions, where contemporary comfort meets Japanese floor-level lifestyles. The ambiance changes by the hour as sunlight glints off the delicate gold patterns woven into the wallpaper, combining with the pavilion's soft lighting to create a rich tapestry of shadows. One pavilion, which has a maisonette design, is located at a high vantage point and offers clear views of cherry blossoms and a Zen garden.

These contemporary guest pavilions feature high ceilings, wooden flooring, and living rooms that overlook the Oi River. They are furnished either with large, comfortable sofas or floor-level seating--beside a depression in the floor where one can comfortably lay one's legs-- from which to enjoy the natural scenery, which is elegantly framed by large windows. With the windows open, one can enjoy sights and sounds that have existed for centuries. Guests may choose between double and twin beds.

They offer the full HOSHINOYA experience, but with a greater focus on privacy--guests get to enjoy scenic views of Arashiyama all to themselves as they settle into their surroundings.
