Our baths started life as Hoshino Hot Spring, dug over a century ago by Kunitsugu Hoshino. The spring's soothing waters served as a kind of balm for bathers returning from the Kusatsu hot springs--famous for their acidity. As the hot spring's reputation for skin care benefits grew, it began to attract famous cultural figures. HOSHINOYA Karuizawa offers two bathing options. The traditional option involves mineral-rich waters that are constantly pumped into the baths, while the contemporary option emphasizes total body relaxation.
The baths offer a relaxing place in which to enjoy Karuizawa's seasonal colors--such as cherry blossoms, fall leaves, and snowscapes--and brisk mountain air. Indoor baths are lined with cedar and border wide windows that offer a clear view of the nearby scenery. Outdoor baths are decorated with rocks to produce a naturalistic setting. The baths are available exclusively to HOSHINOYA guests in the mornings, when bathers can bask in the soft morning light and listen to the chirping of songbirds.
Exclusive to the resort's guests, this bath has a temperature preserved at 39-40℃--ideal for long soaks. Guests first bathe in a space lit with soft illumination. Once their bodies have become accustomed to the water's temperature, guests may enter a space completely devoid of light, where their senses sharpen the longer they stay. By repeating this process, guests will gradually achieve spiritual calmness.
HOSHINOYA Karuizawa's spa offers programs that gently but efficiently guide participants to improve their physical and spiritual alignment, in addition to special treatments tailored to the resort's natural environment. Karuizawa's crisp air, refreshing water, and serene forests provide the perfect backdrop for restoring one's proper alignment.
Nature experts well-versed in the local environment and ecosystems guide visitors on flying squirrel and wild bird watching expeditions, as well as walking tours through forests.
With its collection of delightful restaurants and shops, this wooded open-air mall is akin to a small, artisanal village. Its mix of nature and culture provides a distinctively Karuizawa experience.
Special occasions are celebrated regularly at this hotel and its two historical event venues. Candle Nights in the summer and winter see thousands of lanterns lit on the hotel's premises. It is a beautiful place to take a walk or enjoy afternoon tea.
This pond in the middle of a forest turns into an ice-skating rink in the winter. With the trees bare, visitors can enjoy unobstructed views of Mt. Asama. The cries of winter birds add to the woodland atmosphere.
The forests of Karuizawa provide a gorgeous setting in which to stage a relaxed celebration. Guests are served kaiseki cuisine presented with flair, at a pond-side cafe and bar that functions as a private outdoor salon where guests can mingle amidst the beautiful scenery. With a dedicated staff ready to meet your needs, we promise a memorable experience for host and guests alike.
